2012 CALIFORNIA DRIED PLUM CROP ESTIMATE
Sacramento, CA (June 1, 2012) - The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) announced a 2012 California dried plum crop estimate of 120,000 short tons.
NASS also estimates 55,000 bearing acres for 2012, down from the 58,000 revised estimate for 2011. The French prune variety accounts for approximately 97 percent of all dried plum acreage grown in California.
The 2012 dried plum bloom was earlier than the year before, with no pollination problems reported. Some hail was reported in areas, although no widespread damage. Currently growers expect a similar crop to last year with good fruit quality and size.
