Sacramento, CA (June 2, 2017) - The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) announced a 2017 California dried plum crop estimate of 105,000 short tons, up 106% from the 2016 weather-related short crop of 51,000 tons.

NASS also estimates 44,000 bearing acres for 2017, 2% below the previous year.  The French prune variety accounts for virtually all dried plum acreage in California.

The California Dried Plum Board nursery sales survey reported 2017 prune tree sales at 599,741 up 14% from 2016’s 525,913 trees.  Nursery sales of prune trees are projected to increase by 9% in 2018 to 652,185 trees.
