2014 CALIFORNIA DRIED PLUM CROP ESTIMATE

Sacramento, CA (June 2, 2014) - The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) announced a 2014 California dried plum crop estimate of 95,000 short tons.  This estimate reflects a 15% increase from the 2013 actual of 82,311 tons (as reported by packers to the California Dried Plum Board through June 2, 2014) and a 27% decrease from the reported 5-year average of 130,000 tons.

NASS also estimates 49,000 bearing acres for 2014, down from the 51,000 estimate for 2013. The French prune variety accounts for virtually all dried plum acreage grown in California.

The California Dried Plum Board nursery sales survey reported 2014 prune tree sales at 204,781 down 36% from 2013’s 318,985 trees.  Nursery sales of prune trees are projected to increase by 42% in 2015 to 291,802 trees.
