2015 CALIFORNIA DRIED PLUM CROP ESTIMATE

Sacramento, CA (June 2015) - The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) announced a 2015 California dried plum crop estimate of 100,000 short tons.  This estimate reflects a 4% decrease from the 2014 actual of 104,567 tons (as reported by packers to the California Dried Plum Board through April 2015) and a 15% decrease from the reported 5-year average of 118,000 tons.

NASS also estimates 48,000 bearing acres for 2015, down from the 49,000 estimate for 2014.  The French prune variety accounts for virtually all dried plum acreage grown in California.

The California Dried Plum Board nursery sales survey reported 2015 prune tree sales at 448,013 up 119% from 2014’s 204,781 trees.  Nursery sales of prune trees are projected to increase by 5% in 2016 to 472,038 trees.
